Club History
In
the mid-sixties, one man had the burning desire ‘to help (Barbadian)
men acquire the ability to speak in public” and so Alfred Defreitas
of Painter’s Corner, Roebuck Street, Bridgetown, Barbados founded
the Bridgetown Toastmaster Club.
The
charter of the club was issued on July 06, 1965 and ever since then
club #U2660 has remained active, serving the needs of many Barbadians
in communication and leadership training.
Like most organizations, the Bridgetown toastmasters Club was not
without its teething problems, chief of which was a place to hold
meetings. The Club started holding its meetings at Caribbee Hotel
and from time to time it met at other locations such as the Hilton
Hotel and Dioscesan House. It finally settled at the Caribbee Hotel
until 1996, when it moved to its present location, The Springer
Memorial School. get more info on our history.
