INTRODUCTION

This Business plan was compiled from the collective contributions of club members and officers.  While making new plans, we incorporated many of the positive and beneficial activities that our Toastmasters have enjoyed in the past in an effort to preserve the fun, learning and warm culture of our Club.

The purpose of this document is to layout the club’s plan of action for the year 2004-2005 that would serve as a road map on our journey to becoming a President’s Distinguished Club.

The Club’s theme for 2004-2005 is Toastmasters: Achieving Extraordinary Things Together”. The messages in the theme are that we will work to ACHIEVE and get results through greater commitment and effort; to do EXTRAORDINARY THINGS by being innovative and creative; and work TOGETHER as a team directed by a common purpose of personal excellence.  It is a time for us to re-invent ourselves, creating more value for ourselves and for others. Each Toastmaster is encouraged to let these words guide his/her planning and execution as we work towards our personal goals and to help the Toastmasters movement in general.

In this plan we share information about our education program, membership building plans, public relations plans, social and reception activities, fundraising activities, rewards and recognition program, calendar of events and the budget.

With the formation of the Caribbean Territorial Council of Toastmasters (CTCT) in February 2003, our club formally became a member of the “Barbados Area” now governed by an Area council.  Our plans would therefore include how we plan to work with the local area council and the CTCT, to advance the Toastmasters movement in the Caribbean.

Reflect for a moment on the many fun times you have enjoyed in the past, the many friends you have made through Toastmasters, the personal changes you have experienced, as you became a more confident, competent speaker and leader. Then, keep coming back for more to enhance your personal and professional development whilst simultaneously helping the Club to achieve its goal.

The Club that you helped to create has been doing more for its members.  We now have seven CTM’s, and four CL’s.  This year we continue to help more members achieve their Competent Toastmasters, Competent Leaders and Advance Toastmasters awards with a well thought out plan that requires steadfast commitment and rigorous execution.

Club meetings will be held three times a month at the Cable & Wireless Toastmasters Training Annex, on first Thursdays at 5:15 pm and second and fourth Saturdays at 4:30 pm. This provides roughly thirty-five opportunities for members of deliver projects.  So take the time to set your goals and make your own action plan to achieve your goals, with the help of your fellow Toastmasters. Don’t wait until the end of the year to rush.

The Club continues to be a corporate club sponsored by Cable & Wireless Barbados and will continue to work with the Company to enhance its employee development and training programs.

We look forward to working with every member of the Cable & Wireless Toastmasters Club to create the right environment for you to make full use of your talents and to fulfill your dreams of becoming excellent communicators with effective leadership skills.

This quotation from Mark Sanbourn’s book The Fred Factor sums it all up: “The situation does not determine the outcome, the participants do”.

The rest of this document provides the details related to our objectives and plan of action.
